Critical Reviews | A review of the global distribution of antibiotics and resistance genes in farmland soil by Nannong Zou Jianwen's group

Recently, the team of Professor Zou Jianwen from the School of Resources and Environment, Nanjing Agricultural University published a paper entitled "Antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes in agricultural soils: AThe latest review results of systematic analysis".This study revealed the distribution characteristics and key driving factors of antibiotics and ARGs in farmland soil, evaluated the potential ecological risks of common antibiotics in farmland soil, and clarified the coexistence pattern of antibiotics and ARGs and the level of ARGs in farmland soil.transfer mechanism.The results deepened our understanding of the pollution characteristics of antibiotics and ARGs in farmland soil, and provided a reference for the environmental ecological risk management of antibiotics and their resistance genes.
The misuse or overuse of antibiotics leading to increased bacterial resistance has become one of the major threats to global public health and environmental ecosystems.With the rapid development of the livestock and poultry breeding industry, antibiotics are widely used to prevent animal diseases and as feed additives to promote animal growth, playing an important role in the poultry breeding industry.However, the agricultural use of livestock manure and organic waste has also led to the widespread presence of antibiotics and their resistance genes (ARGs) in farmland soil.Although the contamination risk of farmland soil antibiotics and their resistance genes cannot be ignored, there is still a lack of systematic research on the distribution characteristics and risk assessment of antibiotics and ARGs in farmland soil at home and abroad.

This studybased on 2225 observations of 135 articles, systematic analysis found that cow dung, chicken dung, pig dung and sewage sludge are the main pollution sources of antibiotics and ARGs in farmland soil, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones and their corresponding ARGs were the main pollution types.It was confirmed that land use type, soil characteristics and climate factors are the key factors affecting the concentration of antibiotics and abundance of ARGs.It was revealed that mobile genetic factors play an important role in promoting the transfer of ARGs, especially the sul1 gene is closely related to intl1.On this basis, this study proposes an effective control strategy for mitigating the pollution of antibiotics and ARGs in agro-ecosystems.
