How do clients request databases?

How the client requests data from the server ？
All clients , Through the server program , Share a database identity ？
Or does each customer have an identity that can access the database ？

Client request ——> Server side service program （root identity ）——> Query the database
Client request ——> Server side service program （ The user connects to the database as himself ）——> Query the database
