Abstract: Short circuit is the most likely fault in the power system, and there are countless electrical accidents caused by short circuit every year.This paper introduces the causes and hazards of short-circuit faults in detail, and focuses on the application of Simulink simulation tools in power systems.Power system faults can be simulated using Power System Toolbox SPS and Simulink modules.On the simulation platform, taking the infinite power system as the modeling object, through the steps of module selection, wiring, parameter setting, etc., the three-phase short circuit, single-phase short circuit, two-phase short circuit and two-phase grounding short circuit that may occur in the power system are analyzed.Several faults are simulated.The simulation results show that the waveform is basically consistent with the theoretical analysis, which shows that MATLAB has important practical value in power system simulation research [1].

With the rapid development of the power industry, the scale of the power system has become larger and larger, and now it has become the most extensive and complex structure in the world.One of the man-made systems.As we all know, the four links of production, transmission, distribution and use of electric energy are carried out simultaneously, that is, electric energy cannot be stored.Therefore, how to produce safe, high-quality and economical electric energy to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the power system has become a topic worthy of attention today.It is precisely because of the special complexity of the power system that many power system faults also occur, among which the short-circuit fault is the most serious.In recent years, there have been many major power outages at home and abroad, which have caused huge economic losses and seriously affected the normal production and living order of the people [2].Therefore, the study of short-circuit faults in power systems, especially the short-circuit current problem, has always been highly valued by power science and technology workers [3].
Based on the complexity and safety of the power system, many power system tests cannot be simulated in the laboratory.Therefore, a lot of research work has been done on power system fault analysis at home and abroad since the 1980s, and many fault diagnosis methods have been proposed, but they have not been effectively solved.Considering the actual operation of the power system, it is impossible to carry out scientific experiments from the perspective of technology and safety.Therefore, it is of practical significance and practical value to carry out power system fault simulation.With the help of computers, a series of simulation software began to be born.At present, the power system simulation software we use mainly includes:
- PSCAD/EMTDC program: Its function is to study the variation law of parameters with time when the power system is disturbed or the parameters change [4].
- EMTP program: Its function is to perform electromagnetic transient calculation of power system, comprehensive selection of power system transient protection device and power system transient overvoltage analysis [5].
- PSASP program: Its function is to perform transient analysis, steady-state analysis, and fault analysis of power systems.
Of course, there is also the MATLAB application software developed by MathWorks.Because MATLAB has powerful computing functions, good dynamic simulation environment and rich built-in toolboxes, it has gradually become an important simulation tool for modules such as circuits, power electronics and power systems.
