2 Yocto Project Terms

Here are Yocto Project New users of the development environment may find useful lists of terms and definitions . Although some of these terms are common , But the list includes them just in case ：

append file

Files that attach build information to recipe files . The attached file is called BitBake Additional documents and .bbappend file . OpenEmbedded The build system expects each additional file to have a corresponding recipe (.bb) file . Besides , The attached file and the corresponding recipe file must use the same root file name . File names can only differ in the file type suffixes used （ for example formfactor_0.0.bb and formfactor_0.0.bbappend）.

The information in the attached file extends or overwrites the information in the recipe file with similar name . Examples of additional files in use , see also Yocto In the project development task manual “ Use your layer to attach other layer metadata ” part .

When naming an attached file , have access to “%” Wildcards to match recipe names . for example , Suppose you have an additional file named ：
busybox_1.21.%.bbappend
The attached file will match any busybox_1.21.x.bb Version of the recipe . therefore , The attached file will match any of the following recipe names ：

busybox_1.21.1.bb
busybox_1.21.2.bb
busybox_1.21.3.bb
busybox_1.21.10.bb
busybox_1.21.25.bb
