The receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) is a multiligand member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface molecules. It mediates interactions of advanced glycation end products (AGE), the products of nonenzymatic glycoxidation of proteins/lipids that accumulate in the plasma and tissues of patients with diabetes.

sRAGE: soluble RAGE, 可溶性RAGE：

除全长的RAGE外，还有两种剪切体，一种是N末端剪切体，功能不详；一种是C末端剪切体，缺乏跨膜区，分泌在血浆中，系可溶性形式，也叫esRAGE (endogenous secretory RAGE)。sRAGE能结合AGEs等配体，阻止其与膜上的全长RAGE结合，从而阻断其信号传导通路导致的血管损害作用，同时有助于AGEs等配体的降解排出。因此sRAGE具有血管保护作用，能负向调节AGEs受体依赖的致病作用。体内RAGE剪切体的水平存在个体差异，这使糖尿病患者对血管病变的发生具有不同的易感性。   

临床上，sRAGE水平降低是炎症控制缺失或者失调的标志物，与心血管疾病相关。在高血压病人中，sRAGE水平与血压负相关。而在肾病末期及急性肺损伤病人血清中，sRAGE水平明显升高。
