- The Internet has undoubtedly transformed modern life, creating new opportunities in the areas of 
work, study and leisure. 

- However, a number of problems have arisen as a result of this new technology. 

- Write an essay discussing what you consider to be a significant problem in relation tothe Internet within your field of study and how this might be addressed.

Introduction

• what is the current situation?

The problem

  • who is affected?

The resolution(s)

• What is each resolution?

• How does each solution work to resolve theproblem?

  • Does it deal with the causes?
  • Does it dea with the cohsequences?
  • Does it deal with something else?

The evaluation

• For each resolution, you might consider:

  • What are the advantages?
  • What are the disadvantages?
  • What are the 'costs'?
  • What are the ‘benefits'?
  • What factors are required for the resolution tofunction?
  • What might prevent it working?
  • Is it a likely solution?
  • Might the solution create further problems?

Employees and Internet Abuse

The Internet has become a significant part of people's working lives. However, Internet abuse among employees has become a major problem in some companies as well. As Stewart (2000) point outs Internet abuse has resulted in multibillion dollar reductions in profits because of the low productivity in today’s companies. In addition, Young (2010) claims when employees are absorbed in the Internet, they may be slow to meet customers’ needs, which is likely to hurt companies’ reputations. Therefore, finding ways which could mitigate or solve this problem is essential. The aim of this essay is to discuss employee Internet abuse and possible solutions.

However, Internet abuse among employees has become a major problem in some companies as well. Internet abuse, sometimes referred to as cyberslacking (Vitak et al., 2011), is when employees go online for personal reasons during their work hours, for example to send personal emails. As Stewart (2000) points out Internet abuse has resulted in multibillion dollar reductions in profits because of the low productivity in today’s companies. In addition, Young (2010) claims when employees are absorbed in the Internet, they may be slow to meet customers’ needs, which is likely to hurt companies’ reputations. Therefore, finding ways which could reduce this problem is essential. The aim of this essay is to discuss employee Internet abuse and possible solutions. First, current workplace contexts will be outlined, followed by possible causes and consequences of Internet abuse. Potential solutions will be considered and evaluated before suggesting a plan of action.
