The Internet of things application development trend

According to market watcher IDC, spending on IoT products and services in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) is expected to exceed $16 billion in 2022, a 13% increase from 2021.

The IoT market faces difficulties due to rising inflation, chip shortages, trade restrictions, natural disasters, and supply chain disruptions.However, despite these issues, the increased deployment of 5G, the surge in exchange rates, and the maturing adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud and big data have added potential for IoT deployments.

IDC predicts Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) spending on IoT will reach $24 billion in 2026, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10% from 2021 to 2026.

Those businesses that embrace convergence are expected to thrive in the new normal.”

Labor-intensive and asset-heavy industries, such as manufacturing, utilities, and transportation, will continue to be hot sectors for IoT investment in 2022 and forecast years.Together, these industries account for more than half of all IoT spending.Challenges posed by economic, political or pandemic factors have led organizations to adopt digital-first strategies, and increased automation across processes is driving these industries to invest in IoT.

Governments are also investing in initiatives to strengthen manufacturing supply chains.The Supply Chain Resilience Initiative is an example of Australia's strengthening of the country's manufacturing supply chain for critical products.

Technology, especially the Internet of Things and analytics, plays an important role.The fastest growing industries in 2022 are construction, manufacturing and resources.These countries have traditionally been slower in technology adoption, especially in construction.However, as economic activity resumes, a reduction in restrictions and an increased need for remote or contactless participation are driving this growth.

The highest-spending IoT use cases in 2022 relate to areas such as manufacturing operations, production asset management, smart grids, and freight monitoring.

IoT services will be the largest technology group in 2022, until the end of the forecast.IoT deployments in distributed environments will create challenges in data security, integration, and digital governance, increasing reliance on system integrators and other outsourcing partners.

Through 2022, software spending will be the second largest technology group and the fastest growing technology category, with a five-year CAGR of 11.5%, with a focus on application and analytics software purchases.Software spending is followed by hardware spending in 2022, driven primarily by the purchase of modules and sensors.Connectivity spending will grow at a CAGR of 6.1% during the forecast period and will account for 10.5% of total spending in 2026.
